Mustasim Rumi, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in spine surgery. Understanding that patients need to take an active role in their treatment and recovery to achieve the best results, the Spine Center at Orthopaedic Associates of Central Texas strives to establish the ideal balance of non-operative and operative treatment options on an individual basis for their patients. Dr. Rumi treats a variety of spinal disorders including disc herniations, nerve root impingement, spinal cord compression, spinal stenosis, sciatica, radiculopathy and myelopathy, vertebral compression fractures, spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis, degenerative conditions of all areas of the spine, sports related neck and back injuries, neck and back pain, and spinal fractures.

Dr. Rumi was raised in Rochester, NY and spent most of his life in the northeast. He received his BA from Colgate University (Hamilton, NY) in 1991 and graduated from medical school at the University of Rochester, School of Medicine (Rochester, NY) in 1995 where he was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. His internship and residency in surgery and orthopaedic surgery were done at Tufts University School of Medicine-New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts and at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. During his orthopaedic surgery residency Dr. Rumi elected to spend an additional year of his training dedicated to musculoskeletal research. He is published in the scientific literature, has won several awards and presented much of his research at national meetings.

Following his residency training Dr. Rumi elected to pursue advanced training in spine surgery at the Emory Spine Center of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Subsequently he served on the medical staff of Tufts University School of Medicine – New England Medical Center in Boston, MA where he practiced as a spine surgeon in the Department of Orthopaedics. He left New England to join Orthopaedic Associates of Central Texas (OACT) in October 2005. In addition to developing the Spine Center at OACT, Dr. Rumi has also served as Chief of Surgery, Medical Executive Committee Member, and Medical Director of the spine program at St. David’s RoundRock Medical Center. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Texas Orthopedic Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the Williamson County Medical Society.

Dr. Rumi came to Round Rock with his family including three young children. His hobbies include traveling, cycling, recreational sports, dining out, and spending time enjoying his kids’ activities.
